SAFETY AND ETHICS IN HEALTH INNOVATION

    Greetings everyone!

I'm excited to return with the second episode of the Africa HealthTech Podcast series. I hope you enjoyed the first episode which focused on how AI is driving advancements in malaria research and development, paving the way for innovative diagnostics, treatments, and preventive strategies. This time, I was joined by my esteemed colleague Dr. Mathew

Njoroge, Chief Investigator for Drug Metabolism Pharmacokinetic (DMPK) at the H3D Centre where we explored the exciting area of health innovation in Africa - looking at the importance of safety and ethics in this rapidly evolving field. Together, we dissect the ethical considerations and potential risks that come with these cutting-edge tools.

We discussed some of the big questions: How do we ensure patient data privacy and

security in this age of big data? How can we make sure these innovations reach the

communities that need them most, and not widen existing healthcare inequalities? What

about the accuracy and reliability of these technologies – how do we minimize the risk of errors or biases?

We also touched on the importance of informed consent and patient autonomy, and how we can ensure everyone has a voice in this rapidly evolving landscape. Tune in and listen as we unpack these issues and explore potential solutions.

This is a conversation that's close to my heart, and I believe that it's crucial for the future of healthcare in Africa. So, whether you're a researcher, a healthcare provider,

a tech developer, or simply someone who cares about the well-being of our communities, this episode is for you.

I am grateful to Mathew for bringing his insights to the discussion. Listen to the second episode here and stay tuned for the third episode coming out in August.

Let's keep the conversation going! I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this episode. Follow, comment and message me on X (Twitter) @Kelly_Chibale or send an email to
